Writer’s Toolbox: Capitalize My Title & Canva

This is the second in a series on writing tools and resources. Comment below with your own favorite tools and we might share them in a future post.

Editing Tool: Capitalize My Title

Confession time. This is embarrassing. I’m an editor but, while I’m a strong content editor, I am not a great copy editor. The place in my brain where rules of grammar and punctuation should be stuck is apparently slippery. One handy tool I use more often than I’d like to admit is the Capitalize My Title website. Drop-in your questionable capitalization and it will correct it.

I’m sure some of you are like: Really? You don’t know how to capitalize?

But I don’t. Not always. Especially those pesky little words. My bet is some of you might be closeted bad capitalizers, too. With this tool, nobody has to see your failed capitalization or mine.

Marketing Tool: Canva

Oh Canva, how I love thee. Let me count the ways:

  • Social media posts

  • Book marketing postcards

  • Presentation slides

  • Book trailers

  • Meet the author videos

  • Website graphics

  • Book cover design

  • Promotional Collateral (bookmarks, etc)

  • Business document templates

  • Quotes

  • Blog graphics

These are all things I’ve created using a free Canva account. Basically, anything I’ve posted on social media was made by Canva. All the book marketing material for Heroic Care including the book trailer was made in Canva. I’ve also used Canva to send friends fun digital cards, made printed holiday cards, and even custom coffee mugs.

With a paid account you get more content and templates, you can resize social media graphics automatically for different feeds, and you can also schedule your social media posts. I haven’t gone that route (yet). But even with the free account, I’ve been extremely impressed with how much I use Canva and how good the results are.

Paid or free, the templates are impressive, varied, and adaptable. The content is extensive. The interface is easy and intuitive both on your phone or computer.  Canva is an easy, fun, infinitely useful tool.
